22/10/2025 

   At the International Conference on Jurisprudence held in Budapest from the 16th to 18th of October, Prof. Usami gave the opening keynote lecture, "The Rule of Law, Legal Validity, and Constitutional Order."

 In accordance with Kyoto University's new employment policy to support the young researchers who are negatively impacted by the recent political circumstances in the United States, the laboratory launched a project of hiring a non-tenured assistant professor. The deadline for document submissions is the 7th of July, and the call for applications can be found here.

1/5/2025

 At the 29th Public Policy Studies Association Japan Annual Conference scheduled on June 14th and 15th, Prof. Usami will deliver the presidential lecture, and a visiting professor from the lab, Prof. Tsuey-Ping Lee, will make an invited presentation at an international session. The language is only Japanese in most sessions, except the international one. The conference is open to the public with no participation fees, but registration is strongly advised.  The doctoral course student, Tshering Ongmu Sherpa, was selected a valedictorian and gave a valedictory at the GSGES commencement held on March 24th.

19/2/2025 

 The International Workshop on Ethical, Legal, and Social Issues of AI Development and Use took place at Kyoto University on the 18th of February. It was held by the joint research project led by Prof. Usami, Autonomy and Affinity in AI Development and Use, with the sponsorship from JST-RISTEX "Responsible Innovation with Conscience and Agility" (RInCA) Program. International speakers included Prof. Christoph Lütge (Technical University of Munich; plenary), Prof. Stuart Russel (University of California, Berkeley; plenary), Prof. Peter Asaro (The New School), Dr. John Danahar (University of Galway), and Prof. Tsuey-Ping Lee (National Chung-Cheng University).

 

5/12/2024 

 The doctoral student, Zhang Sailu, won the Best Presentation Award in the Global Ecology poster session at Kyoto University International Symposium 2024 on Education and Research in Global Environmental Studies in Asia, held in Phnom Penh and online on December 3rd.

31/10/2024 

 Our laboratory's promotional video, "Makoto Usami - Social Science Research into Policy and Citizen Responses to Environmental Challenges" was released. You can watch the video here.

4/6/2024  

 Prof. Usami was elected as the President of Public Policy Studies Association Japan (PPSAJ) on June 1st.

27/3/2024 

 The Master's program student, Vivian Law (Law Tsz Wai), was selected a valedictorian and gave a valedictory at the GSGES commencement held on March 25th.

13/3/2024   

 The Master's program student, Vivian Law (Law Tsz Wai), won the Best Presentation Award at the GSGES Master's thesis defense held on January 25th and 26th.
